Grace Design m802

Grace Design m802
The m802 is a remotely controllable microphone preamplifier. The core is a high fidelity 8 channel pre designed to be extremely transparent and musical. With the full featured stand alone hardware remote unit, up to 64 channels (a system of 8 m802’s) can be addressed and controlled seamlessly from up to 300m away. All preamplifier functions, including gain, phase, 48V phantom are instantly accessible and adjustable. These settings can then all be stored into preset locations and instantly recalled.

Alternatively the m802 can also be controlled directly from Avid ProTools|HD systems, compatible control surfaces and many other MIDI devices. Grace Design has adapted Avid's control spec to directly address the m802 as an integrated part of a ProTools|HD system. Additionally, the m802 can be controlled by a wide variety of MIDI mappable devices, making it easily integrated into a wide variety of remote recording situations.

Further control options include the all new Studio Six Digital stand alone computer based (PC or Mac) MIDI control utility 'Grace Design m802 Commander'.

Additionally there is an optional 8 channel 24bit/192kHz A/D card option. Developed as the perfect complement to the m802 mic preamplifier design, this converter card provides pristine, musical A/D conversion together with the unique s-Lock dual stage PLL for low intrinsic jitter.

DPA 4000 series 130V microphones are widely regarded as some of the finest reference-quality microphones available. Yet, with their unique 130V power requirement, preamplifier options for these mics are quite limited. So we have made the m802 an excellent complement for DPA microphones by adding a 130V power option, available on a per channel pair basis. The m802 now includes ribbon mic mode, which shifts the preamplifier’s entire gain range up 10dB, while deactivating 48V phantom power, optimizing input impedance and bypassing the decoupling capacitors.

Features
- fast, musical transimpedance amplifier architecture
- fully balanced, transformeless design
- flexible digital metering with peak hold and reset
- controllable from ProTools|HD systems and compatible control surfaces (and many other MIDI devices)
- 130V phantom power available, per channel pair, for DPA microphones
- dual high-current outputs (XLR+D-Sub) drive long cable runs and loads down to 50 Ohms
- fast, efficient Philips I2C serial protocol to control preamplifiers from up to 300m away
- gain range of -7dB to +63dB in 1.5 dB steps
- new selectable ribbon mic mode
- channel group mode (perfect for stereo pairs, subgroups)
- RCU able to address up to 8 units (64 channels) from up to 300m away

Grace Design m501

Grace Design m501
The m501 is the 500-series module version of the venerable m101 mic preamplifier. Now the signature transparency and detail of our circuit designs is available for the 500 series frame. While the 500 series market has many colored mic preamplifier options, the natural, musical clarity of the m501 makes it a welcome addition to the field. This circuit is for engineers confident with the quality of the source, mic section and placement, and wish to capture it with as little coloration or distortion as possible.

The m501 module is a balanced, transformerles design, with 48V phantom, a 75Hz HPF and a 1/4” HI-Z instrument input. Also standard is the exclusive ribbon mic mode, which raises the mic input impedance, bypasses the input decoupling capacitors and deactivates 48V phantom to protect delicate ribbon mics from damage. Large diaphragm, vintage ribbon or trusty dynamic - the m501 brings out the very best in any microphone and takes the guesswork out of your input chain.

Grace Design m201

Grace Design m201
This is the new ultra low-latency 24bit/192kHz A/D converter module option for the m201 mic preamplifier - a combination designed to capture a new level of sonic clarity, detail and nuance. The A/D module is available on new m201 preamplifiers from the factory or is available as a factory upgrade to existing units.

With the A/D converter module installed, the microphone preamplifier section or the M+S matrix can be routed to the A/D converter input directly for standard recording applications. Or, with the additional analog line inputs on the A/D converter module, the mic preamplifier and A/D converter sections can be used separately, which allows for external processing to be inserted between the mic amp and the A/D converter.

External synchronization to word clock or Avid LoopSync is available, and features a dual stage PPL with s-Lock for extremely low jitter and rock solid digital stability without the use of sample rate conversion.

The m201 A/D converter module also features two independent A/D sensitivity configurations. From the front panel interface, the user can easily switch between two calibrated settings (A) and (B), each of which can be configured to one of four provided standard A/D sensitivities.

Features
- Low latency A/D converter capable of up to 24bit/192kHz operation
- Selectable input source: mic pre channels 1&2, MS matrix L-R output, and external balanced line input
- Four output connectors: 2x AES3 on XLR, AES3-id/S/PDIF on BNC, and TOSLINK optical
- External synchronization to word clock or Avid TM LoopSync
- Wide range low noise VCO based PLL followed by our crystal based s-Lock ultra low jitter PLL
- Two input sensitivities selectable on the front panel, each is independently calibrated
- 20 segment peak reading LED meters show 60dB range
- AES3 outputs can be configured for single or dual wire operation
- Four standard sensitivities are supported: +18dBu = 0dBFS (14dB Headroom), +20dBu = 0dBFS (16dB Headroom), +22dBu = 0dBFS (18dB Headroom), +24dBu = 0dBFS (20dB Headroom)

Grace Design m103

Grace Design m103
The m103 is a channel strip designed for virtually any recording scenario. It starts with the m101 transformerless microphone preamplifier circuity complete with the exclusive ribbon mic mode, a 75Hz HPF and 48V phantom.
The 3 band EQ section is built around single stage parallel tuning architecture, which minimizes circuitry and delivers natural, musical tonal shaping at all frequencies. Controls include a fully parametric mid, with shelving and peak modes on the high and low bands.

The compressor circuit is based on an optical attenuator - one of the purest, high fidelity gain control mechanism available. It provides gentle limiting to fairly heavy compression, while remaining neutral and transparent. The perfect way to zip it all up and send it downstream - clean, intact and alive.

Comprehensive I/O options allow the mic pre and EQ/COMP sections to be accessed independently of each other, and the order of the EQ/COMP is switchable. The compressor controls can be linked for stereo applications, and 10 segment gain reduction and output meters make monitoring signal status simple.
