Tube-Tech CL 1B for Pro Tools HD shipping
Yet another outboard classic has met it’s match inside Pro Tools HD as TC Electronic announced the Tube-Tech CL 1B compressor plug-in. The extremely accurate component emulation which reproduces the CL 1B’s motherboard and tubes gives you two instances on an Accel chip - which means that you can use CL 1B on dozens of channels with a standard HD|3 Accel. Getting the same amount of CL 1B channels as outboard would probably mean selling your car. But then again, heating costs would go down considerably. If you however prefer the cool way to enjoy hot tube sound, give us a ring for a demo in our showroom.

Digidesign announces free iProTools for iPhone and iPod Touch
Digidesign today announced a free mini-Pro Tools for iPhone and iPod Touch. With no external hardware required, you can edit and mix up to 16 audio and MIDI tracks. A bit like Mbox 2 Mini but without the laptop. iProTools will take advantage of the iPhone’s revolutionary user interface and will add new features which support the iPhone’s accelerometer. Shaking the device will for example undo an edit and swiping the screen will move between edit, mix and plug-in windows.
“After testing the iPod SDK, we found out that the hardware power of iPhone/iPod Touch is more than enough to run the Pro Tools core engine with limited track count. The free iProTools will bring the power of Pro Tools to even more people who want to create where ever, when ever” says Digidesign senior platform manager April Fohlsom. iProTools will be available summer 2008.

This might sound incredible but the holy grail of audio editing is coming sooner than you might think: Editing individual notes
inside a chord will be possible when Celemony releases Melodyne 2 plug-in with Direct Note Access this fall.
With Melodyne 2.0 you can split a polyphonic track to discrete notes and change their pitch, duration and timing independently, much like editing a MIDI track. How about changing a minor chord to a major? Fix one wrong note in an otherwise perfect take? Totally change the chord by playing it in with a MIDI keyboard when the original musician is already in the bar? You can actually do all that and more in few months.

Technical Update 12.2.08 - Pro Tools HD Now Leopard Compatible
- The new Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 now supports Mac OS 10.5.1 and runs with HD 7.4 iLok license. This is however just the first part of the Leopard update cycle and supports only 10.5.1 on selected Mac Pro models (not 10.5.2). At this point, we recommend using 7.4cs2 with Tiger 10.4.9 and wait with Leopard and 7.4.1 until more Macs, plug-ins, virtual instruments, chassis and video options are supported. Pro Tools LE and M-Powered are not yet Leopard compatible.

New Punchlight Universal Display
The new Punchlight Universal Studio Display vastly expands the features of the Timecode Displays and Recording Displays. On top of timecode, the Universal Studio Display show many more session details like bars/beats, time elapsed, or samples. It also has a full Punchlight mode for record start/stop/standby to let the talent know what’s going on. Included is also a remote control for all functions.

D-Control ES at SAE Zürich
As the last big project of the year, this afternoon we installed the first Swiss ICON D-Control ES system used solely for education at SAE Zürich. SAE has already dozens of D-Controls in use around the world and we're happy that the Swiss students can now also have a taste of the future. And when we looked at their faces during the installation, they seemed pretty happy too.
The 32-fader black beauty will be used in the main studio to give the students an early start on the emerging industry standard for tracking and mixing. The D-Control will complement perfectly the several other HD and LE systems at SAE allowing the students a real-world workflow of productions which might start on an Mbox 2 Mini and end in the ICON control room.
