Pro Tools HD 7.2.1, MassivePack 5 and HD Pack 6 compatible with Intel Mac Pro
Pro Tools HD 7.2.1 is a compatibility update of Pro Tools HD 7.2 software that provides support for the new Intel-based Mac Pro. Pro Tools HD 7.2.1 is a free download for all Pro Tools HD 7.2 owners. A previous installation of Pro Tools does NOT need to be installed on your system to use this installer. The installer requires an Intel-based Mac to run, it will not work on a PowerPC-based Mac.
Intel compatible versions of MassivePack 5 and HD Pack 6 can be downloaded from the 7.2.1 download page (link below). Call us for details.

Digidesign shows 64-fader ICON D-Control at IBC Amsterdam
Digidesign showed a two-seat ICON D-Control system at IBC Amsterdam last weekend. Typical to large film mixing facilities, the system includes two HD|6 systems for mixing and a third HD|3 for dubbing and video playback. Colin Broad 9pin synchronizers provide sync and communication between the core systems, making it behave as one big mixing console. Almost 20 such consoles are already in use in Hollywood and first ones in Europe are on their way.
As even a large D-Control system costs just a fraction of a comparable large format console and offers in many ways better performance due to tight integration of the mixing console and DAW, it has become a huge hit in post production facilities around the world. Including Switzeland - we will be installing two new 32-fader systems next week.
The new D-Control and D-Command bundles created also lots of interest as they make an ICON system financially possible for even smaller editing, recording and mixing suites. Also interesting for many attendees was the complete Avid-Digidesign workflow which was demonstrated in detail with various workstations on Digidesign stand.

Mac Pro Shipping
We received our first Mac Pro last week so we can confirm that they are definitely shipping. Today we even found time to unpack it and take it for a short spin. We will use the new Quad Core Xeon screamer for internal testing with our ICONs, HD|3 and LE systems.
The Mac Pro's extremely expandable innards are even more impressive live than in pictures and it's running very cool and quiet. We're just waiting to stuff it with four SATA disks and see how many tracks we get going inside the box when Intel compatible Pro Tools HD arrives. More about Mac Pro compatibility soon.

Pro Tools HD and ICON soon compatible with Mac Pro
Digidesign is expecting to release a Mac Pro compatible update to Pro Tools HD 7.2 software in September 2006 as a free update for all owners of Pro Tools HD 7.2. Within a similar timeframe, Digidesign expects to release compatible versions of Digidesign and Digidesign-distributed TDM plug-ins, while working very closely with third-party manufacturers to help them port their plug-ins and compatible applications to the Intel Mac platform.
Based on preliminary testing, Digidesign is also expecting that version 7.1.1 of Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered software (already compatible with Apple's previous Intel Macs) will function on the new Mac Pro without problems. Full qualification is expected late Q4 2006. Check SEC news or Digidesign compato docs for further information in the near future.

Finis is a smooth and transparent peak limiter that helps you maximize your audio's loudness without audible distortion. As the same limiting style doesn't fit every purpose, Finis provides you with three distinct limiting algorithms. McDSP Announces ML4000 Mastering Limiter
The ML4000 is a new high-resolution limiter in single and multi-band configurations.
The ML1 single-band configuration is a mastering limiter with a brick wall design, coupled with multiple stages of limiting for superior peak detection. A continuous Knee control allows the ML1 to operate transparently or aggressively. The ML1 can operate in look ahead and zero latency modes.
The ML4 multi-band configuration is a 4-band Gate, Expander and Compressor fed into the same limiter algorithm as in the ML1. Each band's Gate, Expander, and Compressor can be configured separately, or linked together. Steep 24 dB/Oct crossover filters minimize signal leakage into adjacent bands.
The ML4000 will ship in July of 2006. Pro Tools 7 or higher is required. The ML4000 is also available in the Emerald Pack HD and Emerald Pack Native plug-in bundles.

Swiss Radio DRS orders three ICON D-Control Systems - UPDATE
SR DRS ordered three 32-fader D-Control bundles from SEC to be used in their radio drama studios in Zürich and Basel. Complete with Power Mac Quads, Glyph hotswap storage and superb plug-in package, the systems will be installed during the summer. Training for audio and IT personnel will also be part of the deal which will further underline Digidesign ICON and Pro Tools HD as the preferred tools for audio, post and broadcast professionals. SR DRS has been using several Pro Tools HD systems from SEC since years but these are their first ones with ICON D-Controls.

Magnetix Studio B under construction with 2nd ICON D-Control
Studio B of Magnetix Zürich is closed for few days for a complete renewal including ICON D-Control. The second D-Control makes Magnetix' already fast workflow even more flexible by giving the crew the same tools already present in film mixing studio A. Thanks to the clever in-house developed swithching system the engineer can move a running project to another room literally in minutes including non-linear video. Studio B is mostly being used for mixing TV projects but can now accommodate even larger projects thanks to the new control surface.

Roger Nichols Digital released new plug-ins at AES Paris
An audio legend Roger Nichols unveiled the first three plug-ins of Roger Nichols Digital at AES Paris:
- Dynam-izer - "zoned" dynamic tool
- Frequal-izer - FIR-based linear phase EQ
- Uniquel-izer - EQ with practically unlimited bands and harmonic notch filters
Roger's approach is anything but conventional so his tools are not just another bunch of me-too plugs. Many of his plug-ins are based on his custom-built boxes he has used for a long time for his multiple Grammy winning work with legendary artists and projects. His custom boxes used to occupy a whole computer for one dedicated task but as CPU speeds have improved, it's now possible to offer the products as plug-ins.
His "who-is-who in music business" client list would fill this page and walking through an audio convention like AES or NAMM, you'll hear Roger's productions every few meters used as reference CDs for loudspeaker demos.
We had a sneak peek of the upcoming plugs like Bitchin-izer, Wende-lizer and Level-izer. Can't talk about details yet but as you may guess from the names, there's some bitchin' stuff coming out soon.

Digidesign shows Pro Tools HD 7.2 at AES Paris
Digidesign is offering a preview of the Pro Tools HD 7.2 software. New Pro Tools Custom Keyboards available
As requested by many customers, Digidesign has launched two new keyboards for Pro Tools.
The Pro Tools Custom Keyboards use the same symbols and color coding system built into the keyboards on the ICON D-Control while retaining all the conventional alphanumeric labels that appear on standard computer keyboards.
You can use the new keyboards with Pro Tools HD, LE and M-Powered. However, some key commands are available to HD software only. The DV Toolkit 2 option for Pro Tools LE systems includes some of the key commands that are not normally available with LE software.
The Mac version is based on space saving Apple G5 Pro Keyboard. The PS2 keyboard for Windows comes with USB adapter.
The best as last:The new keyboards will cost less than half of the discontinued Pro Tools TDM USB keyboard.

1000th ICON installed at Disney
The ICON D-Control and ICON D-Command digital consoles have sold over 1000 units combined since they began shipping in 2004. The 1000th unit (a 48-fader dual-operator D-Control) was sold to Walt Disney Pictures and Television for installation on the dub stage to mix the hit television show "Lost".
"Choosing an ICON was the right decision for us. In fact, we chose three," says Gil Gagnon, vice president of post production services for Walt Disney Pictures and TV.
Other recent ICON installations include Warner Brothers, Universal Studios, Microsoft Studios, Ascent Media, Dubbing Brothers, Margarita Mix and Post Logic. In addition to significant sales to industry leaders, ICON was recently used to mix several Oscar nominated films ﾖ in addition to mixing all live music for this year's Grammy Awards.

Apple introduces Boot Camp:Windows XP on Intel Macs
Apple today introduced Boot Camp, public beta software that enables Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP. Available as a download, Boot Camp allows users with a Microsoft Windows XP installation disc to install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac, and once installation is complete, users can restart their computer to run either Mac OS X or Windows XP.
Boot Camp will be a feature in OS X 10.5 "Leopard," Apple's next major release of Mac OS X, that will be previewed at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in August.
And no, this one is not April fool's joke.
